Is Deskrawl Worth It? Price, Reviews and a Verdict (2026)

Yes, at $4.89 — and only at $4.89. Deskrawl is worth the launch discount if you want a windowed idle ARPG you can leave running all day, four classes, and a 70-level cap you will not reach this year. It is not worth $6.99 yet, because the second half is a wall almost nobody has climbed, the trading economy does not function, and the honest answer to "will I finish this" is no.

Deskrawl launched on September 28, 2026. This is a day-four read — an early judgement, not a settled verdict. Every price, review count and unlock rate below was measured on October 1, 2026, and all three moved while we were writing.

  • The store lists $6.99 / ¥28.00, currently discounted 30% to $4.89 / ¥19.60.
  • Steam's own aggregate is 771 reviews, 72.5% positive, "Mostly Positive" — but English-only buyers rate it 85.0%, "Very Positive".
  • Of every counted account, 81.5% own a Legendary, 11.0% have equipped a rune, and 0.5% have hit level 70.

How much Deskrawl costs right now

Sunset hillside with a cart and townsfolk beside the road
Region List price Price on 2026-10-01 Discount
United States $6.99 $4.89 -30%
China ¥ 28.00 ¥ 19.60 -30%

That is the whole product: one package, no season pass, no bundle, no subscription. The -30% is the launch discount announced on release day, not a permanent price. Budget for $6.99 as the real number and treat $4.89 as this week's price.

Platform matters as much as price. Deskrawl is Windows only — no Mac, no Linux, no console, and Steam Deck support is officially undeclared. Regional pricing, languages and minimum specs are in Deskrawl release date, price and system requirements.

Official source: Steam appdetails API for app 4623570 — price_overview gave initial 699 / final 489 / discount_percent 30 for cc=us and 2800 / 1960 / 30 for cc=cn. Both read October 1, 2026.

What 771 Steam reviews actually say

Steam's headline score for Deskrawl is Mostly Positive, and every summary you will find quotes that one number. It is the least informative number on the page. Split the same endpoint by review language and the picture inverts.

Scope Reviews Positive Negative Positive rate Steam's label
All languages 771 559 212 72.5% 6 — Mostly Positive
English only 140 119 21 85.0% 8 — Very Positive
Simplified Chinese only 378 231 147 61.1% 5 — Mixed

Read that again: the 85.0% figure is not a cherry-picked slice, it is what an English-speaking buyer sees on the store page right now. The aggregate is dragged down by a Chinese cohort that rates the game Mixed — and Chinese alone is 378 of the 771 reviews, 49% of the sample and the largest single language block in it.

Official source: Steam appreviews summary endpoint, app 4623570 — re-queried with language=english and language=schinese on October 1, 2026. All three reads returned review_score_desc from Steam's own scoring table; the percentages are our arithmetic on total_positive and total_reviews.

A community explanation for that split exists, and it is community-reported, not official: the most-upvoted English positive review on the game (150 helpful votes) argues the negatives come from two camps — players who think $5 is a lot of money, and players who saw "Steam Marketplace" in the store tags, expected real-money trading, and felt betrayed when the market did not work. What is measured is that English reviews are 85.0% positive and Chinese reviews are 61.1%, and that the trading feature being complained about does not currently function.

The most substantive negative themes, by helpful votes on individual reviews read on October 1, 2026, are drop rate and level-locked talent skills (82 votes), cheat engine within 30 minutes of launch (58 votes), and the demo-to-1.0 changes to the Life Skills tree and world map (22 votes). None of them are about the idle loop.

Two Steam numbers, two denominators

The store page also shows a Recommendations count. On October 1, 2026 appdetails reported recommendations.total = 759 while appreviews reported 771 reviews — different endpoints, different denominators, both moving independently (the same field read 698 on September 30). Neither is a player count, a sales figure, or an install count. Steam has never published Deskrawl's sales, and any site quoting one is guessing.

There is no Metacritic score and no English press review

Deskrawl has no Metacritic score — the appdetails API returns metacritic: null. It also has no English-language press review: a Bing search for "deskrawl review" on October 1, 2026 returned the Steam store page and a wall of Chinese-language wiki pages in the top ten, with no English editorial outlet among them.

So there is no external yardstick. To know whether $4.89 buys a good time, you have to build the ruler from what the developer and the platform will tell you. That is what the table below is for.

The 37-achievement ruler: where a $4.89 buyer actually ends up

Deskrawl has 37 Steam achievements, and their global unlock rates are the closest thing to a public progress bar the game has. Read the third column as a running inventory: this is what the counted accounts own at the moment they cleared that row.

# Rate Achievement What you own when you hit this row

37 0.0-0.1% Pinnacle: Monk Inferno cleared on Monk

Official source: Steam global achievement percentages, app 4623570 and the Steam Community stats page. Both read October 1, 2026 and both return the same 37 rows at the same percentages. The four Pinnacle achievements are a single 0.0-0.1% band because the community page floors any unlocked achievement at 0.1%, so which class holds the 0.1% is not determinable publicly.

Three things in that table decide the verdict, and all three are confirmed by the game's shipped configuration in the 1.0 launch build of September 28, 2026 (live is 1.0.0g):

  • 81.5% own a Legendary, and that is the real product. LootConfig.MinLegendaryLevel = 10 — no Legendary before level 10, which is why that achievement sits where it does. The 1.0 build ships 219 equipment config instances, of which 52 are Legendary (rarity field tally: Common 52, Uncommon 41, Rare 66, Legendary 52, Divine 8). Rarity runs Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Divine, RuneSet — there is no "Epic" tier, whatever other sites say. See Deskrawl item rarity tiers.
  • The game really does idle, but the cap is 8 hours. GameConfig.OfflineTimeCapHours = 8, and ordinary trash mobs carry a NoDrop weight of 87.4-95% in the loot vector. Full mechanics in Deskrawl offline earnings.
  • Everything past level 40 is gated. RuneDrops.MinDropLevel = 40 with a base DropChance = 0.02, and MinDivineDifficulty = 2 means Divine gear and set runes exist only on the third difficulty, Inferno. That is the mechanical reason the 11.0% row exists and the four Pinnacle rows are empty — see Deskrawl difficulties and Inferno.
Check the numbers yourself, and cache-bust

A plain request to the achievement-percentage endpoint returned us the previous day's figures; adding a random query parameter to the same URL returned the current ones, and the live community stats page agreed with the fresh read. These rates move daily and a stale read looks authoritative. The full per-achievement ladder is in Deskrawl achievements: all 37 with real unlock rates.

Is the developer actually active

A two-person studio that shipped Patch 1.0.0g the day after launch — stash management, a reported 130 MB memory reduction, a rebalanced drop system, several anti-cheat false-ban fixes — is a better signal than any review. The pre-launch cadence was steady: thirteen distinct version numbers shipped between June 16 and July 17, from 0.1.9 to 0.1.13f, followed by a public test in August. Concurrent players read 30,853 on October 1, 2026, down from 32,407 on September 30 — normal week-one decay. Player counts are single-point readings, not averages or peaks.

Who should buy it, who should skip it

Buy it if Skip it if
You want a game that runs in a corner of your screen while you work You want a game with a working player marketplace or trading economy
You are fine with the content thinning out around level 40-46 You need a difficulty curve that respects a veteran ARPG player
You have never played an idle game and want one that is honest about it You are still waiting on Life Skills tree changes from the demo, or a richer world map
You want four classes, capture-any-enemy including bosses, and a 70-level ceiling to chase You plan to buy at full price on day one rather than waiting for a sale
You play in English and trust the 85.0% Very Positive figure more than the 72.5% aggregate You read the 61.1% Simplified Chinese Mixed score and it describes you

The cheapest way to decide is to read the beginner guide's first-hour unlock order before you pay. If you played the demo, the demo versus 1.0 changes matter more — several demo players have community-reported that the Life Skills tree lost visible nodes and the world map got barer.

FAQ

Is Deskrawl worth $6.99, or only the discounted price? At the $4.89 launch price, yes. At the $6.99 list price you are paying full for a game whose last zone is opened by 1.7% of counted accounts, so wait for the next sale unless the discount is still running when you read this.

How many people have played Deskrawl? Nobody outside Steam knows, and Steam does not publish it. There is no official sales figure and no install figure. The 771 reviews and the 759 Recommendations count are review-side numbers with different denominators, not player counts.

Is Deskrawl a full game or an early access build? It is a full 1.0 release, not early access. IsDemo = 0 in the shipped configuration, it launched on September 28, 2026, and it shipped patch 1.0.0g the next day. What it lacks is post-launch content, not a launch.

Does Deskrawl have good reviews? It depends which reviews you read. In English it is Very Positive at 85.0% across 140 reviews. Across all languages it is Mostly Positive at 72.5% across 771. Simplified Chinese alone is 378 reviews at 61.1%, Mixed. Read the English and Chinese figures side by side rather than either alone.

Will I finish Deskrawl? Almost certainly not, and that is the point of the price. 0.5% of counted accounts have hit the level 70 cap, 0.2% have entered the Mythic Rift, and all four Inferno clear achievements sit in a 0.0-0.1% band. If a wall you cannot climb in month one disqualifies a game, read the drop rates page first — it covers what 1.0.0g actually changed.
