The first real wall in Deskrawl sits in Kings Woods South at level 25. What the config says about both bosses and how players actually break through.
Deskrawl Ancient Oak Treant and Venom Queen: The Level 25 Wall
The level 25 wall in Deskrawl is two gates, not one. The Venom Queen sits on CorruptForest4 at level 25, and killing her is the only way in: her prefab lists a Demon's Skull at a chance of 1 — a guaranteed drop on every difficulty. That skull is the entry ticket to CorruptForest7, level 28, where the Ancient Oak Treant waits. Your Treant problem is not a DPS check: the Treant's prefab carries exactly two abilities, EnemyBasicAttack and EnemyBigHeal, and its Phases array is empty, so the heal is a flat periodic tick with no phase, shield or add to break.
Deskrawl released on 2026-09-28. Every unlock rate below was read from Steam's global achievement API on 2026-10-01 and moves daily. Every config number comes from the 1.0 launch build unpacked locally; the live game is on 1.0.0g as of 2026-09-30, which added no zone or boss content but did change drop algorithms. Treat the player reports below as early data, not settled wisdom.
What the two prefabs actually contain

Both bosses are Enemy components on shipped prefabs, and the Abilities list is a plain array of asset GUIDs in the YAML — not encrypted, not stripped. Resolving those GUIDs against the game's own asset manifest gives the full loadout.

| Achievement | Venom Queen, 42.0% | Rotten to the Root, 33.3% |
Official source: Deskrawl achievement list on Steam — "Slay the Venom Queen in Kings Woods South." and "Slay the Ancient Oak Treant in Kings Woods South." The achievement title for the Treant is Rotten to the Root, not the boss's name.
The MapData.BossEncounter.Enemies array for each map is where the rosters live, and both fights are not solo:
CorruptForest4spawns two rows of twoPoisonSpiderand oneForestSpiderKingin row 2.CorruptForest7spawns fiveStumplinin row 0 and oneBigTreantin row 1.
So the Venom Queen is a five-body fight and the Treant is a six-body fight. The full map-and-boss table is on our bosses reference page; the seven-map ladder these two sit on is in zones and level order.
Why 42.0% then 33.3%: the drop-off is a ticket, not a spike
The 8.7-point gap between the two bosses is not a difficulty gradient. It is a lock.
CorruptForest4 has an empty EntryRequirements array. CorruptForest7 requires one item, selected by a WorldDifficultyMask of 1, 2 or 4: Skull on Normal, SkullNightmare on Nightmare, SkullInferno on Inferno. And ForestSpiderKing.prefab lists all three at Chance: 1 under exactly those three masks. The Venom Queen hands you the key to her own successor, every time, no RNG.
The game's own item text calls it out: Demon's Skull reads "Required material for the Golden Boss stage. Dropped by Silver Bosses." Silver Boss is the miniboss, Golden Boss is the zone boss. The same rule holds on the Raptor and on every other miniboss, which is why nobody gets gated anywhere else. The full entry rules are in our Demon Skulls guide.

The Venom Queen is a poison problem, and her own minion is the fix
ForestSpiderKing and PoisonSpider share one GUID in their Abilities arrays: SpiderPoisonSpit. There is no boss-only move. The Queen does exactly what her four adds do, which is why a level 26 Hunter's complaint that "I had to tune my talent tree to reduce poison but that's not very efficient if i want to farm idle this zone" is the correct read of the fight (source thread). Poison mitigation is not a detour here, it is the whole mechanic. Where it comes from, per ItemizationConfig.SlotPools in the 1.0 build:
| Source | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pants primary affix pool | PoisonDamageReduction is in the pool |
| Shoulder primary affix pool | PoisonDamageReduction is in the pool |
| Every other slot | No poison reduction affix exists |
| Captured Venom Queen | Passive PoisonArmor, PoisonDamageReduction flat 36.27% |
| Weapon / Ring / Necklace | DamagePoison — the only way to add poison damage instead |
The Venom Queen is a catchable Legendary minion (SlaveData Rarity Legendary, Location CorruptForest, Capacity 27, Species Beast). Her single passive is that 36.27% poison armor, and ForestSpiderKing.prefab lists Rein_ForestSpiderKing in SpecialDrops at a chance of 0.0006, roughly 1 in 1,667 kills. If you are going to farm this zone, that minion is worth more to your poison problem than any affix roll. The capture side is covered in minions and carriage.
The Treant heals, and the config tells you how
This is not a rumor. BigTreant.prefab lists EnemyBigHeal as its second ability, and that asset's fields are readable: TargetingShape.Self, a HealEffect as its only effect, Trigger: Cooldown. It is the only self-targeted healing ability in the entire 48-entry enemy ability pool. Two independent strings corroborate it: EnemyBigHeal.AnimationTrigger is "Special", and BigTreantAC.controller — unlike ForestSpiderKingAC and StumplinAC — carries a dedicated Special animation state. The Treant also carries a BossAura child object.
What the config does not give you is an interval. The Cooldown field is an ACTk-encrypted ObscuredFloat that decodes to 7584.4 seconds, plainly not a real cooldown. That is why this page quotes no heal timing and no health pool. The one widely repeated number, roughly 66k HP per tick, is a single player's on-screen reading, not a config value:
"I'm trying to fight the new boss in the corrupted forest south of Aldenreach, but it heals roughly 66k HP at intervals during the fight. It basically undoes most of the damage I manage to deal, and I can't out-DPS the heal even with a decent build." — Steam discussion 563659924718177236
That player also asked whether a shield, an add, or a phase trigger stops the heal. The prefab answers all three: Phases is empty, so there is no phase-gated window, and the five Stumplin adds carry only EnemyBasicAttack. They do not heal. The Treant is the sole healing source in that arena, which is why burst and single-target damage matter more here than sustain.
The captured Treant is the mirror image: Capacity 30, Species Humanoid, passive Health Increase (MaxHealthPercent 3.81%), and one active ability named Recover with a 28.53% heal effect.
What both bosses actually drop
Enemy.SpecialDrops on each prefab is a full drop list, which almost nothing else in this game's data is. Difficulties: -1 is the WorldDifficultyMask. All flag.
| Venom Queen item | Chance | Difficulty mask |
|---|---|---|
| Demon's Skull | 1 | Normal only |
| Skull of Nightmare | 1 | Nightmare only |
| Skull of Inferno | 1 | Inferno1 only |
| Silver Treasure Chest | 0.05 | All |
| Rein of Forest Spider King | 0.0006 | All |
| Treant item | Chance | Difficulty mask |
|---|---|---|
Elder Oak Bark (BigTreantMat) |
0.2 | All |
Golden Treasure Chest (TreasureChest2) |
0.05 | All |
Legendary belt (LegendaryBelt2) |
0.005 | All |
| Rein of Big Treant | 0.0004 | All |
Elder Oak Bark is the one material named after the fight, and its official description reads: "A slab of bark prised from a tree that fought back, sap still seeping. It only grows harder the longer it is kept."
The belt is the rare one at half a percent. LegendaryBelt2 is a Legendary Belt usable by all four classes, and its effect class is EquipmentEffect_TriggerEffectsOnPotionUse with Chance: 1 — it fires every time you drink a potion and restores 41.37% of max mana. In a fight you are losing to periodic healing, that is a real pickup, not a trophy. The full rarity ladder is in item rarity tiers.
What players actually did to get through
Community-reported, not verified by us, all from the first week:
- Upgrade before you re-spec. "I had all level 24 gear going in to it, and could barely do any thing. Make sure your equipment is honed towards what build you have. Also, I neglected the blacksmith until tonight, and now I'm clearing the Ent pretty easily." (source)
- Switch to single-target for the Treant and stay there. Same thread: the player started on AoE, moved to single-target for the Ent, and ended up not needing a potion at all.
- Same thread, on a build item: an Ancient Legendary ring granting 10% basic attack damage per second you stand still, capped at 20 stacks. Treat the numbers as that player's, since item effect values are encrypted in the unpacked data.
- Kill times are already being compared. "I can beat level 25 Treant in 90 seconds, what builds do those on the list who beat it in 50 seconds use?" (source) A community benchmark, not an official target.
- No Divine from this stage. A player running the Treant stage at 100%+ magic find reports never finding one (source). That matches config: Divine needs Inferno to drop at all, and the miniboss and boss tiers both carry a
DivineChanceof 0.00001.
If you are considering re-specifying, our talents guide covers why there are no prerequisites to undo and what a respec costs. The first four upgrade levels are a 100-per-cent success band in equipment upgrade — relevant, because the most common fix reported above is simply upgrading.
Why level 25 is where the curve bites
GameConfig in the 1.0 build splits enemy scaling into three bands, and the first is by far the steepest:
| Level band | Health growth per level | Damage growth per level |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 30 | 0.12 | 0.10 |
| 31 to 50 | 0.08 | 0.04 |
| 51 to 70 | 0.06 | 0.03 |
Kings Woods South spans level 20 to 28, entirely inside the steepest band. Every zone after it gets proportionally gentler, which is why the pain is front-loaded on this one. The idle XP curve compounds it: MobsToLevelAtLevel15 is 900 mobs per level, and the map you need for that grind is CorruptForest4. Difficulty multipliers are covered on difficulties and Inferno, and per-slot affix pools on gear stats.
The order that works
- Get to
CorruptForest4. That map has no entry requirement. - Fit poison reduction on pants or shoulders before fighting the Queen. Those are the only two slots in the game where the affix can roll.
- Kill the Queen. You get the Demon's Skull at a guaranteed drop and the map-7 ticket with it.
- On
CorruptForest7, kill the five Stumplin adds first. They have no heal and no special; the Treant is the only thing in that arena that heals. - Bring single-target damage, not AoE, and expect to lose to a flat heal rather than to attrition.
- Upgrade before you respec. The most-reported fix in the first week was the blacksmith, not the talent tree.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I get into CorruptForest7 at all? Because it needs a Demon's Skull and you have not killed the Venom Queen yet. She drops it at a chance of 1 on Normal, 1 on Nightmare and 1 on Inferno, and the mask is per difficulty, so you get the skull matching what you are playing.
Is the Venom Queen or the Ancient Oak Treant the actual wall? The Treant, but not for raw numbers. It is three maps and three levels later, it costs a ticket, it brings five extra basic attackers, and it is the only boss in the game shipping a self-targeted heal with no phase gate. The Queen is a pure poison check you can solve with two equipment slots.
Does the Treant's heal have a break condition?
Nothing in the data says so. Phases is empty on the prefab, there is no shield entry, and the adds have no healing ability. The realistic answer is to out-burst the tick, not to interrupt it. We cannot quote an interval because the Cooldown field is encrypted and decodes to an unusable value.
Do I need to change my talent tree for the Venom Queen? Only if you have nothing else. A level 26 Hunter reported that tuning the tree for poison worked but made idle farming in the zone worse. Pants and shoulder affixes, or the captured Queen's 36.27% poison armor passive, solve the same problem without spending a point you will want later.
Is the Treant worth farming after you beat it? Elder Oak Bark at 20%, a Golden Treasure Chest at 5%, and a Legendary belt at 0.5% that restores 41.37% of max mana on every potion use. There is no skull behind it, so it does not gate anything further in this zone.
